The aim of the project is to find out: (1) Basic social needs and problems in chosen Romany socially excluded groups, such as institutionalized discrimination against these groups in the system of social help and possibilities of solutions of discrimination on the background of social help system. The benefit of the project will be information for public service in the chosen areas about basic problems of socially excluded Romany groups in the area and about problems of discrimination, and defined first findings for elaborating a suggestion for some changes in the social help system. The conceptual framework of the research are made by terms, such as stigmatization, social control, discrimination, social exclusion, social needs and social problem. Socially excluded Romany groups from Brno and Ústí nad Labem will be the research unit. Mapping of basic needs and problems, document analysis and interviews with specialists will be used to achieve the results. The main research questions are: (1) What are the basic social needs and problems of socially excluded Romany communities and their socially needed members from the point of view of majority population's criteria? (2) What approaches do the observed local communities react to on the ground of the social help system to an appeal, such as these basic social needs and problems? (3) Are they precautions, acts leading to integration? In which ways they are, in which ways they are not? Why?
